It's been a while since I watched the series, but I remember liking his dedication, to the point of not even really giving up on kendo despite his difficulties.3. What was your first impression of this character?I thought he was comic relief at first, especially with the boobie jokes on the boat.4. Are they one of your favourite character across all anime series?I think I have to say yes, since HiME is really my favorite of the series...5. Do you feel that the Mai-HiME anime did this character justice?Yes, I do. I cannot imagine how he could have been made better than he was, and yet still be himself. That's the big part.

Who did you vote for?
Well, it was a bit of a wrench to choose only one,
but Haruka finally swayed me. And by swayed, I mean she leapt out of the list
screaming something. Something about the Bubuzuke being Australian.
Of course I joined the Executive Committee at once.
2. Why do you like them?
In all seriousness, Haruka is simply an excellent
character. It’s a classic example of providing depth to a character that was
seemingly flat to create new insight; both Shizuru and Haruka have this done to them. The depths to
their personality are only revealed late into the story, and both reveal's make you radically alter your perception of that entire character.
In Haruka’s case, she comes across as loud and stupid. Brash
clothing sense, NO INDOOR VOICE!!, and easily manipulated. These vices obscure even the virtues she shows from the very beginning of the Anime; that she’s
stunningly responsible, selfless in action, and loyal unto death. Brave as all
else, to boot. Her reveal, to me at least, is just how loyal, just how
responsible, and just how brave she is. It’s all shown when Sears comes, and she kicks
that tank. She kicked a tank. She kicked
a bloody tank.
The irony is that from these points of view she is completely correct; she would make a far better Student Prez than Shizuru. Shizuru abandons her responsiblies for Natsuki in a heartbeat, because Shizuru sees her responsibly AS Natsuki. Haruka doesn't stop thinking about the student body, ever - not for anything.
The second point where you've just got to draw breath in awe at Haruka as a person is at the
tea-house. **Winces** That was a painful scene for a lot of reasons, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that you see a whole lot about Haruka as a person. She's almost there to stand in contrast to Shizuru - proud, unyielding, and still selfless. Haruka
is dying. She’s dying. But her last act is defiance against her enemy, and
her last thought is for her best friend.
She’s a very noble person. I admire her
3. What was your first impression of this
"God, will she just please SHUT THE HECK UP!?”
4. Are they one of your favourite character across
all anime series?
One of the most memorable, certainly.
5. Do you feel that the Mai-HiME anime did this
Sort-of, and not really. In HiME she was there for
a specific purpose, to deconstruct some of the stereotypes surrounding this
type of supporting character. Her flaws and absurdity reach rather epic levels. ^^ And then; HiME did give us the tank-kicking, the fake-sickness-YUNIKO-RUN!, and the headbutting of the Student President. That headbutt made me Haruka's love-slave. So... yeah. ^^" I suppose it kinda did as well.
Otome, in some ways, gave her a platform to really shine, making her more likable as a person - but removing some of her purpose. I would think Haruka liked having a purpose. Hmm. ^^ And that's all I'll say about that.
